Merchants in Baldur's Gate 3 often offer different prices for their wares, but there are ways to reduce item prices if your character builds a good relationship with these vendors.
By increasing a certain stat, not only can you reduce the cost of the equipment you want to buy, but you can also increase the amount of money you earn from selling items. The more generous your group is, the better an NPC's offerings will be.
A simple method to lower vendor prices in Baldur's Gate 3 is to go into the game's settings and lower the difficulty before talking to any merchants. This will automatically reduce item costs, with Explorer mode having the most drastic change as the last challenge.
Baldur's Gate 3 – How to buy items at lower prices from merchants
Donating to vendors and having the character in your party with the highest charisma score talk to merchants are the best ways to lower trading prices.
When creating a character, specific classes benefit most from having a high charisma, mainly to allow you to get out of dangerous situations. Classes like Sorcerer, Warlock, and Paladin are particularly reliant on this stat.
Each NPC that sells items in Baldur's Gate 3 has an affinity score associated with them, which you can improve for your party by donating gold or items when initiating a trade. Instead of requesting a piece of equipment from a merchant, offer them an item of junk or outdated equipment via the trade option. Doing so will prompt the game to ask you if you are sure you won't get any money in return, make sure you answer "yes".
Your group's reputation increases with a vendor the more times you donate to them, up to an affinity of 100 per individual merchant. For each goodwill point, the overall prices of that vendor's products are reduced, as well as the amount of money they will pay for your items in trade agreements. This remains a great way to get weapons, armor, or other items that would otherwise be very expensive.
